My friend Keith says that when you're flying West to East on an evening plane, the way to prevent jet lag is to get into your new time zone pdq — if your head says it's 2.00 in the morning, whilst your body tucks into a meal that zaps up your blood sugars, jet lag is worse — so don't have the meal. I find this advice works, for me anyway.
And British Airways are right up there in the fight against jet lag. One of our party ordered a vegetarian meal back in January, but when she phoned to check all was well found it wasn't, and they needed at least a day to do vegetarian in Cattle Class; a bit odd as they'd rustled something up from top deck on the way over on no notice at all. Heigh ho. Bad news, no dinner. Good news, less jet lag.
I returned home to an email from BA, sent four hours after my flight landed with the title "We're missing you" and starting "it's been a while since you last travelled with us..." It had indeed. Four Hours. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder, but I think it's good for a relationship to have some times apart. I have to say I'd be missing BA even more if they hadn't gonked up my friend's meal arrangements both ways this time...
