Cooking the Supper of the Lamb?

Deep respect and all best to Jack Nicholls, Bishop of Sheffield, who has announced his retirement next July. Jack and Judith are in an Episcopal cell group with Lucy and me, and everything good you will hear about him in the tributes (though hey up, he isn't dead yet!) is true. Both of them are full of love, prayer and fun — life will be seriously grey without them. Jack is quoted as saying, and I often think of these words, "Christians are people who pray and have parties."

Sad news leads onto Good News, from the Bradford Diocese, by way of Maggi Dawn's Blog. Vicar's Cafe/Bistro, is a Cafe with a difference at Saltaire. At a time people sometimes describe their new noticeboard as "a fresh expression" this looks like a genuinely creative and natural way of engaging with people inside and outside conventional Church services.

How much are our ways of doing Church expressions of grace, hospitality, generosity and joy? Are we really "people who pray and have parties?"
