Today saw probably the most concentrated snow we have experienced here in our time. The best part of 12 inches has landed, and almost everything has ground to the usual halt such weather induces in Southern England. I know we don’t carry the gear because it’s only this bad a few days a year, but we lost about 30 days last year to such snow, and you’d think if the total losses were grossed up over a few years, it would be worth someone’s while to kit up for days such as this.
Just for the record, another feature of this week has been me staggering around like Frankenstein’s monster with a wooden leg, thanks to an enterprising Indian critter unspecified that managed to infect a sac in my rght knee. Sad Sac is not over blessed with blood supply, so two batches of big chunky antibiotics have gone down the hatch — come next Wednesday we may have a result. It’s the only time in my life my knee has had a temperature without the rest of me having it, too. Insane or what?

Bishop Alan, I pray for a quick recovery from your infected and feverish knee sac. If I may offer a bit of encouragement by looking on the bright side: if one must be staggering around, one had best be staggering around in one's own house, and what better timing to be confined to the house than when 12 inches of snow lie on the ground?
I know. This sort of chin-up talk is usually not at all helpful. :-)
Hot knee Cold snow Suggestions on a postcard (No, they would never reach you in this weather!)
Blessings, or can one not say that to a Bishop?
Very tricky things, knees. Sorry to hear you are having trouble with yours. Hope and pray it will be sorted soon.
Good God get it checked out, I'd hate to think what it is....
It must be beautiful! Looking out from the window, of course. Frankenstein in the snow sounds like a good game. Hope you heal well and truly, soon.
Poor you. Hope it gets better soon. I once had a knee with a temperature which was a bit weird. In this weather it is a good way of warming your hands though?
I am trying to take your advice and be Buddhist about the snow, but I weirdly hate the disruption of not knowing whether something will be cancelled or not and missing things etc...
Anyway - you are in my prayers and I may or may not see you on Tuesday!
Many tanks to all for kind words and especially prayers. I'm booked into the surgery again for midweek, and should know the best or worst then. Meanwhile life is now perfectly liveable.
meanwhile it's a normal woring week in every other way, depending I suppose on snow. We've got a roaring fire here, and I'm pretty much OK to fufil everything external as arranged, though standing around in a blizzard on Stursday giving out chocolate money (to whom?) in Aylesbury, sadly, proved to be a bridge too far.
Hope you feel 'on top of the weather' soon.
Am just anxious that 'tanks' and 'woring' are not really suitable activities for a bishop!
:-))
